Personal Statement:
Dr. Shivkumar is a physician scientist who is a Distinguished Professor of Medicine (Cardiology), Radiology and Bioengineering at University of California, Los Angeles. He specializes in interventional cardiac electrophysiology and has developed several innovative techniques for the catheter ablation of cardiac arrhythmias and other cardiac interventions. His research work, both basic/translational and clinical, relates to mechanisms of cardiac arrhythmias in humans and the role of the autonomic nervous system in sudden cardiac death. Dr. Shivkumar has been elected as a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), American Society of Clinical Investigation (ASCI), the Association of American Physicians (AAP), and the Association of University Cardiologists (AUC). He was also elected as an honorary fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, London (FRCP). He also founded the Amara-Yad Project, an open access knowledge portal for medical education.
